THE DANCE PLACE, Two Locations: ETOBICOKE & NORTH YORK is a registered not-for-profit educational corporation with a Board of Directors.
The Dance Place is dedicated to giving everyone 3 years and up, the opportunity of experiencing the art and joy of dancing as an enrichment to life. All classes are given by a caring faculty of passionate professionals. The teachers are all closely associated nationally and internationally with such prestigious institutions as The National Ballet School, Ryerson University Dance Studies Faculty, York University Fine Arts, The Randolph School for Performing Arts, the IMPERIAL SOCIETY OF TEACHERS OF DANCE (Cecchetti Faculty) and Dance Masters of America.
Our instructors are professionals certified by such organizations as the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (Cecchetti Society of Canada), Dance Masters of America and the British Association of Teachers of Dance, all of which ensure quality progressive training in the many styles and forms of Dance offered. The study of dance should be enjoyable, while encouraging physical and mental discipline. It is of utmost importance for the parents of young children who are interested in choosing dance, not to pick a school for its convenience, but select one whose teachers who have trained in recognized methods and are qualified to teach what they offer. Consumer Beware, there are many charlatan teachers of dance who provide the students with lots of fun, or entertain the students as a captive audience for their own benefit and the students end up with very little skill or knowledge about the art of dance. All qualified teachers hold credentials that confirm they are certified by recognised creditable organisations, having the knowledge and ability to ensure correct and safe instruction. Whether or not a student dancer aspires to be professional or is dancing for personal pleasure, they are entitled to the best professional instruction, as we offer at the Dance Place.
Mission Statement At The Dance Place with studios in North York and Etobicoke, the principal goal is to guide students toward reaching their maximum potential. Instilling self-confidence, self esteem, strength, co-ordination and a respectful appreciation for themselves and others engaged in the study of the fine arts of dance.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES (A) To develop an appreciation and understanding of the fine art of dance as a cultural enrichment as well as an understanding of the interaction and support of all the fine arts. To inspire the desire, determination, strength and dedication required to master this most glorious and illusive of all the fine arts.
(B) To challenge the developing artist in acquiring a vocabulary to be articulate in using the art of dance as an extension of their personal expression.
The City of Toronto and the greater Toronto area is a major international centre for the visual and performing arts, and as such, The Dance Place plays an important role as a center for learning and cultural enrichment.
PHILOSOPHY It is expected that not everyone will be a great dancer, and that dancing, of course, will be experienced as a complete art form, more by some than by others. Nevertheless, as every child has a right to a box of crayons and some instruction in the fundamental principals of drawing, and in the use of colour, whether or not there is any chance of them becoming a professional artist, so every child has a right to know how to achieve control of their body, so that they may use it to the limit of their ability, for expression and their own reaction to life. Even if they can never carry their efforts far enough to realize dance in its highest forms, they may experience the sheer joy of the rhythmic sense of free, controlled and expressive movement, and through this know an addition to life, to which every human being is entitled. If the interest in giving instruction in dance is to produce dancers only, dance as a creative and pleasurable art experience, possible to all, is doomed.
Not every student of dance will come to know the thunder of applause, or the thrill of a curtain call on the stage, but through the discipline of dance, will acquire strength, charm, poise, and grace to last a lifetime.
The Dance Place welcomes everyone over the age of 3 1/2 years interested in dancing regardless of race, colour or creed.
