TORONTO'S DANCE MACHINE established in 1989 is celebrating 23 years of presenting well trained dancers in competitions with award winning choreography. TDM is the Dance Competition Company of The Dance Place, established in 1989 under the Directorship of Jacque Foesier co-artistic directorship of Melissa Foesier, Kelly McCaughey and the late Alison Shand. Melissa Foesier is TDM's co-artistic director. Toronto's Dance Machine is supported by The Volunteer Board of Directors of The Dance Place, Parents, volunteers and through Performances. Members of Toronto's Dance Machine perform locally at special events, compete in local, regional and national competitions. Acceptance into the competition company is by audition, and requires a serious commitment to a specific training regime resulting in excellence of performance. AUDITIONS - for new dancers wishing to join Toronto's Dance Machine for the 2013/2014 season, auditions take place - 3:00 7:00 PM - January 25, 2013 at 885 Sheppard Ave. West. For registration information call 416 633 2726 or e-mail thedanceplace@bellnet.ca before Saturday, December 15, 2012(Late requests will not be accepted) Private audition/assessment - usually take 20 - 30 minutes in length. All audition/assessments are by appointment only. The fee is $50.00 per audition/evaluation. Audition and evaluation fees are credited to the students account, if the candidate is accepted to the school. In addition to dancing in a maximum of 4 competitions annually, dancers perform at special events such as Dance Weekend sponsored by Dance Ontario, The Preview Showcase, the AGM, at National Dance Day events, Nursing/Retirement Homes and in the end-of-season School showcase. All competition dancers must upgrade by continuing their training during the special TDM summerCamp. This can be done in various ways: Basic fees cover choreography, rehearsals, teacher’s work time and back up administration. There are additional fees for costumes, competition entry fees and team uniforms for new members. A complete fee package is quoted for each individual dancer, since each competitors program will vary. Parents of competition dancers must be accepting of administrative and artistic decisions, and offer the necessary financial assistance supporting the dancers, and be able to fully participate in any fund raising projects selected by the parent volunteer committee. Maximum number of competitions the school will enter is 4 per year. Outstanding achievers at local competitions may attend National and International finals. SUPPORT: Parents & dancers of the competition program are required to actively support special performing opportunities & fund raising projects, such as seeking sponsors, establishing scholarships, endowments as well as participation in special events such as International Dance Day and arranging transportation to and from events. Parent volunteers are required to sponsor or seek sponsors and assist in co-ordinating projects such as the Preview Showcase.
