Terms of Registration and Acceptance
A. When registering for dance classes, you are making a contract with the studio to provide you with the lessons you have signed up for. If there is insuffient registration in any course, the director will suggest an equal or higher level alternative for you. If this is unacceptable, we reserve the right refuse your application.
B. It is essential that all persons participating in classes at the Dance Place, are familiar with, and agree to abide by the basic rules of good behavior and school policies, including the dress code
C. These policies have been put in place for the following reasons:
(a) to ensure that all students receive the best possible learning experience.
(b) to ensure that our professional teachers can do their work unimpeded, focusing on the needs of all students interested in acquiring skills in Dance, Musical Theatre and related studies.
(c) to establish a respectful and nuturing environment for all staff and students.
Please read carefully, to familiarize yourself with the following: Registration All registrations are to be made in person and endorsed by a parent or an authorized guardian for applicants less than 18 years of age. In the case of separated or divorced parents, if visiting rights coincide with lesson days, both parents are expected to fully co-operate ensuring the student maintains good attendance. No one is permitted to attend classes until their registration is complete and (signed by both parents if separated & sharing costs), and payment of fees has been arranged and approved. A $30.00 non refundable regisration fee is applied to all regisrations
Refunds In the event a student is withdrawn, cancels or discontinues during the first two months of the school year, full payment of fees is required up to the end of the month in which notice of cancellation is given. Loss of registration fee, initial deposit if any and costume deposit will apply. *An administration fee of $50.00 is charged on all cancellations
*There are no refunds after October 31st.
The exception is in the case of serious medical reasons confirmed by a family physician's report.
There will be no financial adjustments for family holidays, extra curricular activities or accidents, causing a student to be withdrawn from an important Dance Place activity such as Toronto's Dance Machine or the annual showcase. NOTE: All full year tuition fees must be paid in full by May 1st, after which monthly interest charges will apply to outstanding balances. This interest will be charged at 7 1/2% per annum, accumulating until the balance is paid.
Please note: Notice of discontinuance must be in writing and signed by the same person who signed the registration.
BEING ABSENT FROM CLASSES DOES NOT CONSTITUTE NOTICE DISCONTINUANCE The School reserves the right to refuse refunds if any of the above conditions are not met.
Discipline The school reserves the right to remove any student from classes and programs if that student:
1. Is habitually late (more than 3 times), constantly requesting washroom leave, leaving a class without the teacher’s permission, and consistently distracting and interfering with the purpose and progress of the class.
2. Refuses to accept the authority and direction of the teacher in charge of the class, whether regular staff or substitute.
3. Refuses to adhere to the established dress code and rules of acceptable behaviour.
4. Is found to be in possession of property belonging to other students or the school without permission. This includes clothing, elecronic devices, costumes, books and musical reordings.
5. Parental interference. When a parent disrupts a class or rehearsal, rudely demanding the teacher’s immediate attention, they display a lack of concern & respect for the comfort of the students as well as the authority of the teacher in charge.
6. Parents who go into the dressing rooms while classes are in progress and remove items belonging to other students will be reported to the proper authorities. HIDDEN VIDEO SURVEILLANCE MAYBE IN EFFECT AT ANY TIME. Parents wishing a teacher interview or meeting are requested to make appropriate arrangements by calling the dance office to schedule an appointment.
Calendar
Please be familiar with all dates and events published, especially holidays and the end-of-season showcase when announced. The school calendar is published on the back cover of the Course Guide.
N.B. a) It is most important that all students have good attendance especialy in the two months prior to the showcase. Try to avoid conflicts such as school activities, graduations, mitzvahs, birthday parties and family vacations from late April to mid June.
(b) It is essential that every student attend the Photo Day even if the parents are not purchasing the pictures. Important for all recreational students to attend the on-stage rehearsal for the annual school showcase of dance. (c) All teachers have the authority to request a student to observe or be removed from class, if that student is late for class, except in special circumstances, or does not appear properly attired and groomed, the teacher has the final word on whether or not the student may participate. The student who is well groomed and dresses correctly for class is also properly prepared mentally to focus and concentrate on applying themselves, getting the most benefits from their lessons.
Co-operation and Support
If everyone co-operates and is observant of the above, the study of dance will be a pleasurable, enriching and rewarding experience for all.
